We welcome self-pay patients and are currently in-network with:
Aetna (commercial plans)
Sentara (commercial and Medicaid plans) We are actively working to join additional Medicaid and Medicare networks. Please check back for updates as our network participation expands.

At High Ground Psychiatry, we’ve chosen to operate primarily as a self-pay practice in order to provide the highest level of personalized, flexible care without the limitations often imposed by insurance networks. This model allows us to spend more time with each patient, make clinical decisions based solely on individual needs, and maintain a high standard of confidentiality and service.

While we understand that insurance coverage is an important consideration for many, a self-pay structure enables us to focus on what matters most: delivering thoughtful, evidence-based treatment in a supportive and responsive environment. We’re committed to being transparent about our fees and helping patients navigate care with clarity and confidence.

We welcome self-pay patients, including those without insurance or whose plans we do not accept. Please note, we are unable to accept Aetna or Sentara health plan members as self-pay clients. Our self-pay fee schedule is as follows:

  • Our comprehensive psychiatric evaluation is the starting point for your care. Your initial appointment allows our psychiatrist to gain a clear understanding of your mental health through in-depth discussion, diagnostic assessment, and review of your medical and psychiatric history.

  • Follow-up appointments combine medication management with individual therapy to provide well-rounded, personalized care. These sessions include ongoing monitoring of your medication and offer a supportive space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences as part of your overall treatment.

Self-Pay Policy

Payment for self-pay services is due in full prior to your appointment. Appointments may be canceled if payment is not received. We accept credit and debit cards.

By choosing the self-pay option, you acknowledge responsibility for the full cost of your care. Our practice does not bill insurance on your behalf, but we are happy to provide a detailed statement (also known as a “superbill”) upon request so that you may work with your insurance provider to see if they will provide out-of-network reimbursement, however, we cannot guarantee reimbursement. For questions about your insurance coverage, please contact your insurance provider directly.

We are not able to accept patients with Aetna or Sentara health plans as self-pay.

Rates are subject to change, with advance notice provided. Thank you for trusting us with your care.

Cancellation & No-Show Policy

We understand that unexpected situations can arise, and plans may need to change. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, we kindly ask that you provide at least 48 hours’ notice. You may call our office at any time to cancel or reschedule; leaving a voicemail is perfectly acceptable.

Providing timely notice allows us to better manage our schedule and offer that time to another patient who may be waiting for care.

Fee Policy for Missed (No-Show) Appointments:

  • A $150 fee will be charged for missed initial psychiatric evaluations/initiation of care appointments without 48 hours’ notice.

  • We do not charge for the first missed follow-up appointment (please note: this does not apply to initial psychiatric evaluations/initiation of care appointments), understanding that occasional issues can arise. However, after the first occurrence, any missed follow-up appointments without 48 hours’ notice will result in a $75 fee, based on a 12-month rolling period.

Late Arrival Policy

Appointments require sufficient time for safe and effective care. Patients who log in late may be marked as a no-show and subject to fees:

  • For initial psychiatric evaluations, patients who arrive more than 20 minutes late will be considered a no-show.

  • For follow-up appointments, patients who arrive more than 15 minutes late will be considered a no-show.

*These fees are not covered by insurance and will be billed directly to you.

Repeated missed appointments or late cancellations may result in termination from the clinic. In such cases, you will receive a probationary notice via email before any final action is taken. This policy is in place to support consistent, timely care for all patients.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
